What are the types of inks used for pad printing?

Feb 01, 2024

High-quality prints are produced by pad printing using specialized inks that are designed to stick to a variety of substrates. The following inks are frequently used for pad printing:

1, Solvent-Based Inks: One of the more conventional methods for pad printing is ink that is based on solvent. They are dyes or pigments that have been dissolved in a solvent. The solvent evaporates as these inks dry, leaving the color on the printed surface. A variety of substrates, such as plastic, metal, glass, and ceramic, can be adhered to with ease with solvent-based inks. They frequently offer strong colors, good opacity, and abrasion resistance.

2, Due to their quick curing abilities, UV-curable inks are gaining popularity in pad printing. Photoinitiators found in these inks react to ultraviolet( UV) light, causing instant curing or hardening. High durability, adhesion, and chemical and abrasion resistance are all features of UV-curable inks. They can be printed on a variety of materials, including coated surfaces, metals, and plastics.

3, Water-based inks are environmentally friendly substitutes that primarily use water as a solvent. When compared to solvent-based inks, these are less odor-prone and contain less VOC (volatile organic compounds). Printing on porous substrates like paper, cardboard, and some fabrics is possible with water-based inks. They provide quick drying, easy cleanup, and good color vibrancy.

4, Two-component inks are two components that are combined just before printing. These are also referred to as two-part or 2K-inks. These inks are suitable for difficult substrates like silicone, rubber, and some plastics because of their excellent adhesion and durability. Two-component inks frequently need particular mixing ratios and have a short shelf life after mixing.

5, Silicone inks are made specifically for printing on silicone rubber or other silicone-based materials as pads. High flexibility, excellent adhesion, and chemical and temperature resistance are all features of these inks. They are frequently applied to silicone products like wristbands and keypads for printing.

It's crucial to remember that the application, substrate, and desired printing results all affect the ink choice. The curing requirements, adhesion characteristics, and substrate compatibility of various inks may vary. It is advised to speak with ink producers or suppliers who can offer advice and suggest the most appropriate dyes for your particular needs when choosing paper for pad printing.
